Tribunal claims increase by 56% in 2009 / 2010
Each year the Employment Tribunals produce statistics in order to review the number of claims and monitor any pattern shifts. The Tribunals have just published their figures for 2009 / 2010 and the most significant and concerning figure to note is that Tribunal claims have increased by a whopping 56% from 2008 / 2009. Due to this huge increase in claims the Tribunals have become overburdened with claims resulting in further delays in hearing the case. The number of Employment Tribunal claims in which the first hearing took place within 26 weeks of the claim being received fell from 74% to just 65%. These statistics can be attributed to the recent economic climate and recession resulting in increased job losses along side number of multiple claims being submitted.
